Verismo

A unique “tetralogy” to rediscover the Italian soul

A

Four operas, two composers, one conductor. With this ambitious formula, the Regio inaugurates the 2026/2027 Season with the Verismo project, featuring musical direction by Andrea Battistoni and stage direction by Daniele Menghini and Francesco Micheli, to rediscover the roots of an aesthetic that is more relevant than ever today, capable of recounting extreme passions and social contradictions with undiminished urgency.

The project stems from the desire to overcome the “trap” of established success, inviting the audience to look beyond the most famous titles. Alongside the unsurpassed archetypes of Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci, we rediscover Leoncavallo’s Bohème, born from a creative challenge with Puccini, and the dazzling Iris, a pinnacle of orchestral refinement that opened the doors to the lyricism of Madama Butterfly. An act of love for our musical history, organized into 22 performances over five weeks.

The flexibility of the proposal becomes a special invitation for the public: during the first two weekends of November, the operas will be available as a cycle over three consecutive days, transforming Turin into a premier destination for a journey into the heart of Verismo.
