Pierino e il lupo
Prokofiev hid an entire orchestra inside a fairy tale. In Peter and the Wolf, each character is associated with the timbre of a specific instrument: Peter is a lively string quartet, the Cat a velvety clarinet, the Duck a slightly comical oboe, and the Wolf three dark, menacing horns. One need only listen to see them move. The production by the Controluce Teatro d’Ombre company adds a second layer of magic: silhouettes and reflections bring the score—performed by the Orchestra del Regio—to life within an evocative shadow-play setting, while a narrator skillfully blends sound and imagery.
