MITO | Enrico Calesso
The final concert in Turin of the MITO SettembreMusica festival is an intense tribute to Dmitri Shostakovich, featuring the performance of his Symphony No. 13 in B-flat minor, Op. 113, known as “Babi Yar.”
Written for solo bass, male chorus, and orchestra, the composition takes its name from Yevgeny Yevtushenko’s poem denouncing the massacre of Jews in Kiev during the Nazi occupation. Shostakovich creates a dramatic and profound fresco on memory, justice, and freedom of expression, using a tense and vibrant musical language.
On the podium is Enrico Calesso, leading the Orchestra and Male Chorus of the Teatro Regio Torino, in collaboration with the Foundation. The vocal soloist is bass Alexander Roslavets.
A monumental concert, the festival’s final act in Turin, marked by history and conscience, closing the season with a musical reflection on memory and collective responsibility.
