On Thursday 14th April at 20:00, the Regio will stage, for the first time in Turin, the opera La donna serpente (The snake woman), by Alfredo Casella. The Orchestra and Chorus of the Regio are conducted by Gianandrea Noseda. The opera is directed by Arturo Cirillo. The cast that will bring to life this fabulous opera, inspired by fairies, gnomes and goblins, includes, among others: Piero Pretti, Carmela Remigio, Erika Grimaldi, Francesca Sassu and Sebastian Catana. La donna serpente will be the centrepiece of the Festival Casella, a project made possible by the City of Turin, which, for two weeks, will unite all musical institutions in Turin, the Cinema Museum and the Teatro Stabile. A refined and fascinating cultural journey that, through music, theatre, cinema and meetings, will, for the first time cast light on the multifaceted figure of Alfredo Casella, who was born in Turin in 1883.

On Tuesday 15th March at 20:00, the Regio will stage La Cenerentola by Gioachino Rossini, the most beautiful fairy tale in music written by the “Napoleon” of composers. The new production, premiered in Italy, boasts the direction of the young Alessandro Talevi, graduated in London, winner of the prestigious “European Opera-directing Prize” and requested by major European theatres. Making her debut on the podium of Orchestra and Chorus of the Regio is the young Speranza Scappucci, a rising star of the glorious Italian school of conductors named “Artist of the Month” by the prestigious Musical America. The cast includes singers international renowned who are specialised in the Rossini repertoire such as: Chiara Amarù, Antonino Siragusa, Paolo Bordogna, Carlo Lepore.
Alessandro Talevi, born in Johannesburg to Italian parents, leads for the first time in Italy the show from the Swedish Malmö Opera. The director explains: «My Cinderella is set in Rome in the fifties and is fascinated by the big movie star, like all the girls after World War II. Alidoro is the crucial character of “my” Cinderella, a great director of Cinecittà in search of the heroine for his new film». Respectful to the score, this production has a protagonist very close to teenagers nowadays, a new reading of acute social analysis.

Teatro Regio, Tuesday, 9th February 2016 at 20:00. Tuesday, 9th February at 20:00, the Regio will present Tosca by Giacomo Puccini, the first masterpiece of the twentieth century Italian music, in a new European production to be premiered at the Regio. Renato Palumbo conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Regio, and Daniele Abbado directs it. The melodrama of historical setting, with strong dramatic colours, boasts a cast of internationally renowned soloists: Maria José Siri, Roberto Aronica and Carlos Álvarez. This production is organized with the support of the Società Reale Mutua di Assicurazioni, whose President Iti Mihalich said: “Our Society, Founding Partner of the Teatro Regio of Turin since 2012, has always paid attention to promoting the development and diffusion of culture as a key instrument for social and economic growth of the territory. We are pleased to continue to offer concrete support for the lyric tradition and to the activities of one of the most prestigious theatres in the art and music internationally. We are helping this year, after having supported the staging of Guglielmo Tell in 2014 and Le Nozze di Figaro in 2015, the subalpine opera season starting with Tosca, the famous opera by Giacomo Puccini.”

On Tuesday 19th January 2016, at 20:00, the Regio shows The Cunning Little Vixen by Leóš Janáček, premiered in Turin and directed by Robert Carsen. It is a unique opportunity to appreciate a title rarely performed, presented in a setting of great beauty and poetry. The Cunning Little Vixen is the first of the project Janáček-Carsen which shows, as from this season, the great masterpieces of the Moravian composer, one of the fathers of the musical language of the twentieth century. The great Canadian director Robert Carsen has a close relationship with the Regio which started back in 1996 with Cendrillon followed by Mephistopheles (2002), Rusalka (2007) and Salome (2008), reads and interprets the composer’s masterpieces. The English conductor, Jan Latham-Koenig, a leading expert in the opera of Janáček, is on the podium of the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Regio, directing this rich score. The delicate and poetic staging of Carsen, an Italian premiere, is a co-production between the Opera National du Rhin and the Opéra de Lille. The cast: Lucie Silkenová, Michaela Kapustová, Svatopluk Sem, Eliška Weissová, Jaroslav Březina.

December is full of emotions at the Teatro Regio. It is a month when we will host the Eifman Ballet of St. Petersburg with two of the most successful choreographies created by Boris Eifman: Anna Karenina from 3-6 and Onegin from 10-13 December. Followed by the famous Carmina Burana by Carl Orff from 17-22; a representation in a scenic form of the famous secular songs by Mietta Corli, author of the direction, sets and videos. The Grand finale takes place from 28-31 December with the world's most famous Italian dancer Roberto Bolle that, in the Gala Roberto Bolle and Friends, brings together the brightest étoiles on the international scene. For the first time in Turin two wonders of the English Baroque

Thursday, 19th November at 20:00, the Regio stages Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell for the first time, thereby initiating the first thematic strand of the season: the Baroque Opera Project. The director Federico Maria Sardelli, in his debut on the podium of the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Regio, addresses the full score of the English composer. The spectacular production, for the first time in Italy, comes from the Opéra de Rouen Haute-Normandie and is signed by Cécile Roussat and Julien Lubek, responsible for the direction, setting, costumes and choreography. The cast: Roberta Invernizzi, Benedict Nelson, Roberta Mameli, Carlo Allemano, internationally renowned soloists, are experts in the field of early music.

On Wednesday 14th October at 20:00, the Regio opens its new 2015-2016 Opera Season with Aida by Giuseppe Verdi. Gianandrea Noseda, who conducts the Orchestra and the Chorus of the Teatro Regio, faces the impressive score of Verdi in the settings of the celebrated director, Oscar winner William Friedkin. For the third consecutive year, we open the season with one of Verdi’s masterpiece, a composer symbol of excellence in our theatre, making it recognizable worldwide. This production of Aida is a tribute to the reopening of the Egyptian Museum of our city, a cultural and strategic link within the wide range of museums in Turin.
