2013-2014 Season

Teatro Regio: Italy in opera

The Teatro Regio has never created such a full season as the coming one. There will be thirteen operas, two ballets, a premiered show and a gala dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi. On top of such formidable commitment we must still add the tour in Japan; another invitation after the great success in 2010.
In the 2013-2014 season we focus our attention on the great Italian music, particularly that of Verdi and Puccini to whom we dedicate two festivals.
In parallel, we continue with the project aimed to create a solid repertoire of opera symbol, alternating more and more titles thanks to the historical staging of our production to offer, in short periods of time, more varied point of views based on the production of the great masters.
The curtains will open on 9th October with Verdi's Simon Boccanegra (9/10-23/10) conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, in the beautiful setting designed for the Teatro Regio by Sylvano Bussotti; protagonists of melodrama set in Genoa are: Ambrogio Maestri, María José Siri and Michele Pertusi. Verdi’s Festival will thus continue with two of the operas that are not only popular but also paradigmatic, both from a "political" and a "sociological" aspect: Rigoletto (17th-25th/10) and La traviata (18th-27th/10). Both will be presented in two settings, already part of our repertoire, conducted by Donato Renzetti and Renato Palumbo as well as: Devid Cecconi, Laura Giordano and Piero Pretti for Rigoletto and Irina Lungu, Massimo Giordano and Marco Di Felice for Traviata.
