Teatro Regio, from Saturday 31 October 2009 till Monday 24 May 2010
As we have become happily accustomed over the last few years, this edition with the Teatro Regio and the Filarmonica ’900 of the Teatro Regio, schedules a programme that includes many genres of the contemporary and classical musical universe. From masterpieces of the twentieth-century such as Fifth Symphony by Gustav Mahler, Friede auf Erden and A Survivor from Warsaw by Arnold Schönberg, to the concert of the impassioned conductor Yutaka Sado who will conduct Escales by Jacques Ibert, Four Sea Interludes by Britten and the suite from Pelléas et Mélisande by Fauré, concluding with the famous Boléro by Ravel. We arrive to the lastest work of Ezio Bosso who will present, as a world premier, his Symphony no. 1 “Oceans” with soloist Relja Lukic, first cellist of the Regio. One concert will be dedicated to great film scores with the evocative power of some of John Williams’ most important works, written for Star Wars, Harry Potter and Schindler’s List, and Hans Zimmer’s The Gladiator.
Double appointment with music for ballet: Gianandrea Noseda, the Regio’s Music Director, conducts Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird for the traditional concert of the end of the year. The concertmaster of the Regio Serguei Galaktionov will perform, together with the strings of the Orchestra del Teatro Regio, Apollon Musagète by Igor Stravinsky and the famous Serenade for Strings in C Major by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
Moving towards contemporaneity, we could'nt forget one of the most distinctive voices among Italian songwriter-singers: Gian Maria Testa. The chansonnier will interpret some of his classics in two different parts: the first one in "a solo" and the second one with two instrumentalists.
This edition will also see the collaboration of the young conductor Henrik Schaefer with the award-winning pianist Barry Douglas in the impervious Concerto n. 3 in d minor by Sergei Rachmaninov, universally known as “Rach 3". The Symphony no. 3 in c minor by Sergei Prokofiev will close the performance. Emblem of this symphonic season, is the concert of Mario Brunello: the great cellist will present the masterpieces of Bach with the show of music, words, video and electronics Pensavo fosse Bach created together with Saul Beretta and the video participation of Vinicio Capossela (already protagonist in collaboration with Brunello in the highly successful Fuggite, amanti, Amor).
