This concert is a feast of music by Brahms that takes the audience on a jaunt through Central Europe. Brahms’ German heart is waylaid by dances from Hungary and the spirit of Haydn’s Austria - confirming once again the vastness and power of central European culture of the second half of the 1800s.

Rossini was a great admirer of Beethoven. One day in Vienna he managed to get himself invited to his house. “Ah, so you’re the author of the Barber of Seville?” said Beethoven. “My compliments. It’s an excellent opera buffa.” This performance pays tribute to that historical meeting.
