Regio to LAC Lugano under the sign of Puccini. Gianandrea Noseda conducts La bohème in concert

Tuesday 25th October 2016, at 20.30

The premiere tour of the Regio of the 2016-2017 Season takes the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro to the prestigious and new LAC - Lugano Art Culture - the Swiss cultural centre dedicated to the visual arts, music and the performing arts. It is one of the cultural reference points of the Swiss confederation. In the concert hall with 1000 seats, completely covered in wood and equipped with a special acoustic shell, Gianandrea Noseda will conduct La bohème in concert form, with the same cast protagonist of the inaugural production of the opera that opened the 2016-2017 Season. La bohème, a masterpiece and emblem of the Teatro Regio, where Puccini decided to have it premiered 120 years ago finds a new interpretation by Gianandrea Noseda. “It's a very difficult opera - says the Regio’s Music Director - a few other titles of Italian opera have this complexity. It is a score worked in minute details that sets in motion a mechanism close to theatrical perfection, pursued with great insight, yet very delicate. It is an opera that I would call ‘modernist’, rather than traditionalist; it uses in fact a twentieth century language, with tight theatrical and emotional speed.”
Mimì is the Russian soprano Irina Lungu. An artist applauded around the world and who works closely with the Regio. With her lyrical and warm voice, she makes the most of the fragility and the poetry of the character created by Puccini. Beside her, the tenor Giorgio Berrugi plays Rodolfo. An artist with remarkable vocal and performing talents, Berrugi has quickly become one of the reference points of the Puccini repertoire. Musetta is the soprano Kelebogile Besong, a young South African artist, winner of several international singing competitions, much appreciated by critics and audiences for her talent and her technique, which allow her to tackle a repertoire from Baroque to contemporary music. Marcello is played by the baritone Massimo Cavalletti, singer of warm and generous voice, and who has earned the most important international stages. Rounding out the cast: the baritone Simone Del Savio (Schaunard), the bass Gabriele Sagona (Colline), the bass Matteo Peirone (Benoît and Alcindoro), the tenor Sabino Gaita (Parpignol), the bass Mauro Barra (Sergeant of the customs officers) and the baritone David Motta Fré (A customs officer). The Chorus of the Teatro Regio and the Chorus of the Teatro Regio and the "G. Verdi" are led by Claudio Fenoglio.
It is a lyrical evening with great emotions, which taking the Puccini masterpiece to one of the most prestigious cultural centres of Europe. For more information visit: www.luganomusica.ch
