A new Boris opens the Season

Fondazione del Teatro Stabile di Torino and Teatro Regio Torino

Press Release – 19 April 2010

Change in cast: Valter Malosti is the new protagonist in Byron’s Manfred, with stage direction by Andrea De Rosa

Frédérique Loliée, the actress designated by director Andrea De Rosa and the artistic management of the Teatro Stabile and Teatro Regio as the protagonist (en travesti) of the up-coming joint production of Manfred by Byron/Schumann, has announced, with great professional regret but also personal joy, that her by-now confirmed maternity will prevent her from completing the artistic commitment she had initiated.

Though we share her regret, the stage director and management of the Teatro Stabile and Teatro Regio participate warmly in her joy, and by mutual consent have decided to entrust the role to the actor and director from Torino, Valter Malosti.

Il barbiere di Siviglia, L'elisir d'amore and La bohème

Three opera masterpieces on stage in May

Teatro Regio, 2-30 May 2010

Three operas in the space of a month, three masterpieces of Italian opera and three great casts for a very special May: Il barbiere di Siviglia by Gioachino Rossini from 2 to 14 May, L’elisir d’amore by Gaetano Donizetti from 9 to 13 May and La bohème by Giacomo Puccini from 21 al 30 May. The three productions, all realised by the Teatro Regio, serve to enrich the offering for the numerous tourists present in the city, and, at the same time, respond to the growing demand of the regular public: already at the end of February, bookings were so numerous that an extra performance of Barbiere was added (and immediately sold out like the rest of the performances).

Luisa Miller

Great singers for Denis Krief’s production.  Donato Renzetti conducts

Teatro Regio, Wednesday 14 April 2010 at 8 pm

On Wednesday 14 April  Luisa Miller by Giuseppe Verdi, the tragic opera in three acts based on the play Kabale und Liebe by Friedrich Schiller on the libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, will open at the Teatro Regio. The staging, co-produced with the Teatro Regio of Parma, makes use of Denis Krief’s stage direction, sets, costumes and lighting, while on the podium of the Orchestra and Chorus of the Regio will be maestro Donato Renzetti, an established specialist of the romantic Italian repertoire. Singing under his direction will be Fiorenza Cedolins (Luisa), Sebastian Catana (Miller) – substituting for Roberto Frontali who due to illness will not be taking part in the opening night -, Massimiliano Pisapia (Rodolfo), Orlin Anastassov (Count Walter), Barbara Di Castri (Federica) and Enrico Iori (Wurm). The Chorus Master is Claudio Fenoglio.

Teatro Regio at Shanghai Expo

Grand Theatre, 4 and 6 August 2010
La bohème
Expo Auditorium, 5 August 2010
Verdi Gala

This summer the Teatro Regio will be the protagonist of an important tour of Japan and China, where it is the only Italian opera company to be invited to the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, thus setting in motion one of the most prestigious events of the Regio’s long artistic history.

The Regio is preparing for the tour with all the enthusiasm and seriousness that have always distinguished it  and made it a point of reference for artists all over the world, as well as one of the audience’s favourite theatres.

Being invited to take opera – a fundamental part of Italian culture – to the great  World Expo in Shanghai is surely a sign of the artistic maturity that the Regio has attained in recent years and which has grown with the presence of Music Director  Gianandrea Noseda, an impetuous and captivating spirit for all the artistic forces.

At the Grand Theatre of Shanghai we will stage, with Eugenio Guglielminetti’s unforgettable staging, two performances of La bohème, the opera that symbolises  Teatro Regio, where Puccini decided to present the world premier  in 1896.
