Music throughout the Centuries: the new concert season with the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Regio
and the Filarmonica ‘900 of Teatro Regio

26th Oct 2013 - 17th May 2014

The Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro Regio and the Filarmonica ‘900 of the Regio are the protagonists of the new Concerts 2013-2014 season which will be inaugurated on 26th October under the baton of Manfred Honeck and will be concluded on 17th May by having the maestro Gianandrea Noseda on the podium.

Great directors, from all over the world, will offer a rich and elegant program with fourteen appointments, including a show being premiered here for the first time and two Galas dedicated to Verdi and Wagner.

The Austrian maestro Manfred Honeck, who is at the Regio for the first time, will open the season on 26th Saturday October at 20:30. He will be directing the Orchestra of the Teatro Regio with two great classics from the nineteenth century: the famous Symphony in B minor by Franz Schubert and the Symphony no.1 by Gustav Mahler. The first, written in 1822 and known as Unfinished, remained in the shadows for several decades and was brought to light only in 1865. The Symphony no.1 of Mahler, composed over a long period of time between 1888 and 1894, underwent several revisions. Titan was the subtitle chosen by the composer thinking about the novel Der Titan by Jean Paul Richter, defined by Ladislao Mittner as the “song of praise of the German spring and spring forces of the German soul”: in the first movement, Mahler in fact intended to be an “endless spring” or “the awakening of nature from its long winter sleep”.
