Gianandrea Noseda Music Director of Teatro Regio until 2014

Gianandrea Noseda will be Music Director of Teatro Regio for the next four years, his name thus continuing to be tied to that of the Torino opera house, renewing that relationship that, beginning in 2007, has made him the driving force of all the musical elements of the theatre. After the reconfirmation of Walter Vergnano as General Manager in July, that of Noseda is the second important piece of the management planning that has led the Regio to important achievements, crowned by the triumphant reception given to the recent tour of Japan and China. In fact, one of the theatre’s strategic priorities is  this international activity.

As already announced, we have been invited to Germany, Spain and France in 2011. In addition, a new agreement has been made with the Théâtre des Champs Elysées for a series of operas to be performed by the Regio in concert form  over the course of the next three years in the Parisian theatre. Another activity that continues to be expanded is the making of recordings: in fact, an agreement has been reached with Chandos and Ricordi-Universal to record important choral-orchestral works by twentieth-century Italian composers like Respighi, Casella and Petrassi. The recording of live DVDs of Regio opera productions will also continue: in fact, a DVD of Boris Godunov, for which Gianandrea Noseda achieved great success, is being realised at the moment. In a few days, other important symphony concerts will take place with the special concert on 20 October at the  Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan and the inauguration of the Concert Season at the Teatro Regio on 21 October, on the programme the cantata Alexander Nevsky by Prokofiev and the Second Symphony by Sergei Rachmaninov.

In such a difficult moment for Italian opera companies, their very existence threatened by continuous cuts in financing, the choice of Gianandrea Noseda is a double sign of confidence for the Teatro Regio: on the one hand the presence as Music Director of one of the most recognised interpreters of his generation testifies to the willingness of the theatre to continue to strive for excellence, and on the other hand, it is a sure sign of the Regio’s growing authoritativeness on the international scene. In fact, Noseda will continue his important international career with guest appearances on the podium of the most important theatres and concert halls around the world, as well as being Principal Conductor of the Orquesta de Cadaqués in Spain (since 1998), Artistic Director of the  Stresa Musical Weeks (since 2000), Principal Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic (since 2002) and “Victor De Sabata” Guest Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (since 2010). For the next four years then, besides the activity that will see him personally involved on the podium of the Teatro Regio, Maestro Noseda will also continue to be its best ambassador around the world.
