Tamagno at the Borgo

The collection of more than fifty costumes – together with numerous mementos, such as letters, photographs, paintings and medals – coming from a private collection in Milan and recently added to the Tamagno Fund of the Historical Archives of the Teatro Regio, joining the previous body of material acquired by the city of Turin at an auction in London in 1997 and donated to the Tearo Regio, constitutes, with its nearly three thousand items, the largest thematic and biographic documentation dedicated to a singer.

This important new acquisition, made possible thanks to a contribution of the Compagnia di San Paolo, not only earns Teatro Regio the record for documentation of one of the greatest opera singers of the second half of the nineteenth century, but guarantees the city of Turin an historical and cultural patrimony of great cultural value.

It seems unavoidable and proper to realise an exhibition – present in Turin but especially, thanks to the precious collaboration of Ascom, widespread around the urban area – that introduces to the public another of the many, well-known or not, treasures of Turin.
